Diesel spill at Windy Craggy

Diesel oil has spilled from a storage tank at the Windy Craggy property in northwestern British Columbia.

Property owner Geddes Resources (TSE) was informed of the spill by the environmental protection branch of the province’s Ministry of Environment, Lands & Parks.

The project, which includes a premier copper deposit, was expropriated by the provincial government in 1993 and is now part of a Class A provincial park where resource development is prohibited. At that time, the government promised to compensate Geddes and others whose mineral claims were turned into parkland.

Geddes had sought advance funding to remove its structures and equipment from the remote site, but without success. The company says it is co-operating with government to assess the cause and extent of the damage from the spill.
