Dickenson strilers resume contract talks

Negotiations between representatives of Toronto-based Dickenson Mines’ and striking employees at the company’s Red Lake, Ont., gold mine have resumed.

After rejecting a revised company offer of a three-year contract, the hourly employees at Dickenson’s Red Lake mine wentonstrike June 6.

The strike was called after labour negotiations between Local 950 of the United Steel Workers of America and Dickenson failed to produce a new labour agreement.

While Dickenson President John Kachmar refused to reveal the contents of the new offer, he is confident that the strike which has halted operations at the mine will not be prolonged.

“The company is hopeful that an amicable settlement can be reached soon,” he said.
