DIAMONDS — Caledonian seeks licence

Caledonian Pacific Minerals (CDN-V) has applied for exploration licences for 600 sq. km. in the Bingara diamond field of New South Wales, Australia, based on geophysical data compiled by the Department of Mineral Resources.

The Bingara diamond field was explored in the 1970s by Stockdale Prospecting, a subsidiary of De Beers Consolidated Mines (DBRS-Q). Using South African kimberlite models and indicator minerals as a guide, the company discovered the Miowera and Orange Grove diatremes in the northern part of the Bingara region.

A geophysical study was conducted by the mineral resources department, indicating that the diamond field was sizable. Interpretations of the data by Caledonian leads the company to believe that Miowera is one of as many as 10 diatremes within a cluster measuring 2 km by 3 km. The diatremes appear as magnetic and radiometric anomalies associated with a fracture system.

Caledonian has already identified the Lady’s Gully, O’Brien and O’Keefe targets in the southern part of the field.
