Winspear Resources (wsp-v) has recovered diamonds from holes drilled into a complex kimberlite breccia at the Camsell Lake project in the Northwest Territories.
The first hole drilled on a geophysical anomaly on the eastern side of Snap Lake yielded one 39-kg sample containing two macrodiamonds (exceeding 0.5 mm in one dimension) and nine smaller stones. A second sample recovered from a greater depth contained 20 macros and 36 smaller stones. The largest diamond from the samples had a maximum dimension of 1.48 mm.
A second hole, drilled 55 metres to the west, also intersected complex kimberlite breccia, but results are not yet available.
Winspear notes that the large xenoliths of granitic rock it encountered would dilute the diamond concentration and, therefore, were excluded from material submitted for analysis.
Although no green or pink diamonds were reported, the overall characteristics of the recovered diamonds are similar to those taken from nearby kimberlite dykes earlier this year.
A 2,200-metre drill program will begin later this month in the vicinity of the aforementioned holes.
The Camsell Lake project is held 57.3% by Winspear and 42.7% by Aber Resources (abz-t).
