DIAMOND PAGE — Program aims to boost potential of Jericho project

Operator Lytton Minerals (LTL-T) and partner New Indigo Resources (NDR-A) are hoping to enhance the potential of their Jericho diamond project in the Northwest Territories.

A summer exploration program, now under way, is aimed at discovering kimberlites near existing diamoniferous pipes.

Last year, the partners reported that a 9,400-tonne sample from the JD/OD-1 pipe yielded 10,539 carats with an average value of US$59.61 per carat. Other nearby pipes are being evaluated.

In the immediate area of the Jericho pipes, Lytton has identified numerous geophysical and geochemical anomalies. These are being further refined by ground geophysics, mapping and additional till sampling.

In the broader Jericho area, an airborne geophysical survey was completed, covering areas with indicator mineral occurrences. Additional till sampling, prospecting and mapping are under way in an effort to refine targets that, if warranted, will be further tested by ground geophysics and drilling.

On the Ice claims/Ranch Lake area, wholly owned by Lytton, 19 targets have been identified by Kennecott Canada Exploration. These will be proposed for the 1999 drill program. Summer sampling and mapping to enhance these and other targets are ongoing.

Meanwhile, two drill targets were found on Lytton’s 50%-held DIA claims, which are also subject to the option agreement with Kennecott, a division of RTZ. The major can earn 51% of the joint-venture projects.

Kennecott’s program over selected areas of the Rockinghorse and Hood River properties, held equally by Lytton and New Indigo, has generated 90 targets, 21 of which may be drilled next year.

Lytton and New Indigo have other projects in the Northwest Territories, as well as ground in northeastern Alberta in which they hold an option to earn a 75% interest.

New Indigo President Glenn Laing recently resigned as a president and director of Lytton and was replaced by Desmond Alexandre. Fred Sveinson, formerly chief operating officer, also resigned.
