Following the discovery of five kimberlite bodies earlier this summer at the Victoria Island diamond project in the Northwest Territories, Monopros has completed a surface program of till sampling, glacial mapping and helicopter-borne geophysics.
The De Beers subsidiary collected 185 till samples from 10 geophysical targets and four anomalous kimberlite indicator mineral areas. In addition, geophysical surveys totalling 1,545 line km were flown over nine target areas.
Initial microdiamond results from the five kimberlite discoveries are expected in several weeks. A 300-kg sample was collected from each body and shipped to De Beers Laboratories in South Africa for microdiamond and indicator-mineral analysis.
Monopros can earn a 51% interest in the 2-million-acre property by spending $2 million on exploration, with property owners Ascot Resources (AOT-V) and Major General Resources (MGJ-V) each holding a 24.5% share.
Meanwhile, Ascot and Major General have augmented their land position by staking an additional 160,000 acres adjacent to the Victoria Island property. Those claims that fall within 5 km of the Victoria Island property boundary are subject to the Monopros earn-in agreement.
