DIAMOND PAGE — DIAMOND NEWS ROUNDUP — United Reef commissions plant

The commissioning of a 30-Tonne-per-hour diamond recovery plant is proceeding on schedule at the Bamingui River property in the Central African Republic, reports operator United Reef (URP-T).

The joint-Venture project is near the village of MBala. In May, 3,680 tonnes of alluvial gravel were processed, resulting in the recovery of 291.4 carats.

United Reef expects the project will produce between 600 and 800 carats of gem diamonds each month from the Bamingui River deposit. To date, 5,731.27 carats of diamonds have been sold for an average value of US$182 per carat.

A parcel of diamonds from the new plant is expected to be ready for sale in early July. United Reef holds an 80% stake in the project.
