While Ireland is not widely known as being prospective for diamonds, the British Geological Society’s 1995 publication, The Potential for Diamonds in Britain, suggests that the pursuit of gems of the Emerald Isle would not be unreasonable.
Vancouver-based Poplar Resources (PPX-V) intends to explore four newly awarded licences in Northern Ireland for their diamond potential. The licences total 100,000 ha, with an additional 8,000 sq. km held under an expression of interest. The land package includes an area where a rare pink diamond was discovered in 1817.
