DIAMOND PAGE — Cominco halts expansion

Low zinc prices have prompted Cominco to postpone, until next year, an expansion program at its Cajamarquilla zinc refinery in Peru.

The first phase of the expansion, which increased production by 20,000 tonnes, to 120,000 tonnes per year, was completed a year ago. The second phase was to have doubled current output.

The company says construction could be completed in less than two years from a decision date.
