DIAMOND NEWS ROUNDUP — Mountain Lake gets prospecting nod South Africa’s mines ministry has approved the diamond prospecting rights of Mountain Lake Resources (VSE) on its Mooi River properties.

Alluvial mining in the Mooi River Basin has produced more than 250,000 carats of gem-quality diamonds to date, worth in excess of US$100 million at current prices.

A small test excavation on Mountain Lake’s land yielded four diamonds totalling 9.75 carats, including one 6.75-carat gem.

Mountain Lake’s properties adjoin past-producing diamond fields. The Mooi River properties comprise 80 sq. km in western Tranvaal.

Mountain Lake is seeking partners for prospecting.
