Preliminary results from diamond exploration work carried out on the Kola Peninsula in northwestern Russia are encouraging.
Russian-based Northern Mining has been exploring a land position comprising 25 square miles.
The company has thus far mapped 49 highly prospective magnetic anomalies and is preparing to drill them. About 500 additional anomalies have been identified by aerial surveying.
Prior to acquiring its licences on the Peninsula, the company test-drilled two kimberlite pipes and found diamonds (of sub-economic quantity) in both.
