Kennecott Canada, a unit of Rio Tinto (RTP-N), has located a new kimberlite pipe on the Ice property of Lytton Minerals (LTL-T) in the Northwest Territories.
The pipe, designated LI-201, is entirely land-based and situated 90 metres west of the diamondiferous pipe known as T-31, on the eastern part of the Ice claim block. The discovery hole, drilled at the edge of the pipe, intercepted kimberlite from 15 metres to 165 metres and had a total depth of 238 metres.
The LI-201 pipe consists of kimberlite with incorporated Cretaceous mudstone and wood, which suggests a possible association with the Lac de Gras kimberlite cluster.
Kennecott plans to split the core and perform caustic fusion analysis for diamonds greater than 0.15 mm, as well as indicator mineral analysis.
