At the Candle Lake joint venture in the Fort la Corne area of Saskatchewan, Kennecott Canada has suspended a 25-Tonne program of mini-bulk sampling on kimberlite C29/30 until a larger drill rig can be brought in.
In previous drilling, C29/30 yielded a total of 32 macrodiamonds and 149 micros from 1,345 kg of kimberlite that had been recovered from nine drill holes. (A macrodiamond is defined as measuring larger than 0.5 mm in one dimension.) The largest diamond recovered measured 1.2 mm.
The kimberlite body is estimated to contain a potential resource of 70 million tonnes, based on results from previous drilling and geophysical surveys.
Meanwhile, caustic fusion analysis of eight diamond dill holes into kimberlite C28 yielded 27 macros and 165 micros from a total sample weighing 1,927 kg. Kimberlite C28 lies 32 km south of kimberlite body C29/30.
Kennecott can earn a 60% interest in the project from partners War Eagle Mining (WEM-V) and Great Western Gold (GWG-V) by spending $8 million on exploration and development.
