Diamond miners in rescue competition

Tahera Diamond (TAH-T, TAHEF-O) and BHP Billiton (BHP-N, BLT-L) were the big winners at a rescue competition held in Yellowknife, N.W.T.

Tahera won the surface rescue competition, whereas BHP Billiton won the underground event.

Meanwhile, Diavik Diamond Mines’ mine rescue team took home top honours in two other events: fire fighting and the rope rescue. Diavik finished second in the underground competition.

All the teams will now go on to participate in September’s National Western Region Mine Rescue Competition, held every two years in Fernie, B.C.

Diavik Diamond Mines is a wholly owned subsidiary of London-based Rio Tinto (RIO-N, RIO-L) and Aber Diamond (ABZ-T, ABER-Q).
