Diabior, Virginia sample gold showings

Surface sampling of two showings at the Eastmain West property, 300 km northwest of Chibougamau, Que., has confirmed suspected widths and grades for property owners Diabior Explorations (ME) and Virginia Gold Mines (ME). Two new showings have also been discovered.

The LA showing, stripped and channel-sampled in three locations, showed grades of 17.7, 14.26, and 12.48 grams gold per tonne over 1-metre widths. Previously reported surface grab samples featured gold concentrations of 7 to 80 grams.

Three channel samples were taken on the K showing, where a surface grab sample, taken in September, showed a gold concentration of 52.4 grams per tonne. The gold grades of the channel samples were 1.8 grams per tonne over 2.5 metres, 1.7 grams over 3 metres, and 2 grams over 2 metres. The showing is part of a larger deformation zone, 100 metres wide and more than 1 km long.

A new showing, PP-51, was found when an induced-polarization (IP) anomaly was stripped. The anomaly proved to be a fracture zone 17 metres wide, containing arsenopyrite, pyrite and pyrrhotite. Chip sampling on the bedrock surface returned an average gold content of 1 gram per tonne across the entire width, containing a 3-metre interval with a grade of 3.5 grams per tonne. The IP anomaly itself has a strike length of 2.8 km.

Since then, additional surface samples have been taken from sites along a 1.6-km strike length of the PP-51 anomaly. These have been found to have 1 to 3 grams gold per tonne.

The Fisher showing, 300 metres east along the strike of the LA structure, yielded grab samples with grades of 7 and 10.8 grams gold per tonne. The companies consider the geological contact extending from LA to Fisher to be an excellent exploration target.

Diabior and Virginia have set aside a budget of $400,000 for drilling between December and February, and will be testing the LA, K and PP-51 showings, “as well as other targets that have the same geophysical signature.” IP surveys have proved useful insofar as the gold is accompanied by disseminated sulphide minerals. Because arsenopyrite is common to all the property’s gold showings, the company is also paying close attention to areas where geochemical sampling shows high concentrations of arsenic.

Soquem is earning a half interest in the Eastmain West property by providing $600,000 in funding, and Diabior and Virginia have the option to earn a half interest in Soquem’s adjacent Reservoir property.
