Two juniors, Freewest Resources (TSE) and Detector Resources (ASE), intend to form a joint venture to explore the Camking gold property near Matachewan, Ont.
The project is 1 mile north of two former mines, Young-Davidson and Matachewan Consolidated, which, combined, produced more than 800,000 oz. gold between 1934 and 1956. This area is currently being explored by Royal Oak Mines (TSE), which says it has outlined a geological resource of 12.8 million tons averaging 0.09 oz. per ton.
Detector can earn a half interest in Camking from Freewest by spending $75,000 over the next two years. Prospecting, trenching, sampling and mapping are already under way, and future work will focus on known zones of mineralization.
The discovery zone is a sericitized, silicified, pyrite-bearing shear structure hosted in sedimentary rocks. Previous drilling returned up to 10% pyrite and gold values of 0.22 oz. over 3 ft., 0.12 oz. over 7 ft. and 0.11 oz. over 4.5 ft.
If results warrant, additional surface work and diamond drilling will be undertaken.
