Despinassy drilling suggests long shear zone

Winter drilling at the Despinassy property, 80 km northeast of Val d’Or, Que., suggests the presence of a large deformation corridor with multiple zones of mineralization.

A 24-hole, 8,700-metre drill program, completed in the spring by Cameco (CCO-T), intersected some significant gold mineralization. Wide intersections — ranging from 11 to 67 metres of core length — showed gold grades of about 1 gram per tonne, but these included some narrower zones with grades in the 4-to-8-gram range over core lengths of 1-3 metres.

Gold mineralization at the property sits in two deformation zones, both of which are roughly parallel to bedding and dip moderately to steeply north. The deformation zones, which together are about 150-200 metres wide, are developed in basalts and in nearly concordant felsic porphyry intrusions.

The drill results suggest that the gold-mineralized system is about 5,000 metres long. Further drilling is needed to show which parts of the system are potentially economic.

Cameco holds a 70% interest in the property, with the rest held by Vancouver junior Major General Resources (MGJ-V).
