Preliminary exploration on Delta Gold Mining’s (DTG-V) newly acquired Asturias copper project in the Philippines has identified several large zones of strong copper mineralization.
The project is the focus of a 12,000-ha exploration permit filed by Plantation Mining, Delta’s wholly owned Philippine subsidiary.
Sampling has returned copper values ranging from 1.65% to 19% in high-grade, vein-style copper, as well as disseminated copper oxide zones hosted by sediments and volcanics.
Widespread argillic alteration in the north-central portion of the property indicates potential for a large porphyry-style deposit, the company says.
Prospecting, mapping and stream-sediment sampling have been completed over the entire property. Also, six large zones of anomalous copper in soils have been mapped, along with numerous showings of oxide copper in metavolcanics.
Results from trench sampling include 1.43% copper over 44 metres and 1.1% copper over 20 metres. Sub-surface tunnel samples have returned 0.4% copper over 45 metres and 0.86% copper over 13 metres.
Follow-up work will include geological mapping, grid soil and outcrop sampling, ground geophysical surveys and more trenching.
