Delegation unveils rules for foreign investment in China’s gold sector at Southeast Asian conference

Chief Engineer Yang Dali and a delegation of officials from the China Gold Bureau will visit Canada to provide details of newly drafted regulations governing gold exploration and mining in their country.

The initial public announcement will be made during The Northern Miner’s second annual Southeast Asian Mining Conference and Exhibition, to be held Sept. 25-26 in Toronto at the Holiday Inn on King. The new regulations are expected to reduce barriers to investment and allow foreign companies to participate more easily in exploration and mining projects in China.

The conference will also feature an overview of mining opportunities in Southeast Asia, including case studies from companies working in Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand, Myanmar, Vietnam, Malaysia and Papua New Guinea.

Among the 50-plus exhibitors will be numerous companies active in these regions. Another session will focus on financing global mining ventures, including the role of commercial banks and equity capital.

Paul Kavanagh, director of Bre-X Minerals, will deliver the keynote address and provide details of the company’s huge Busang gold project in East Kalimantan, Indonesia.

The conference is being hosted by The Northern Miner. Conference sponsors are Barrick Gold, Yorkton Securities, IBK Capital, Loewen Ondaatje McCutcheon, Ocean Resources and Malaysian Mining. To register, phone (416) 510-6755 or call toll-free (Canada and U.S. only) 1-800-650-1666.
