Definition drilling program tests River Gold property

Encouraging results have been received by River Gold Mines (TSE) from the company’s wholly-owned Eagle River gold project 50 km west of Wawa, Ont.

The drill program involves detailed definition drilling at 10-to-20-metre spacings above an existing drift, 120 metres below the surface. The program is designed to provide information necessary to allow for the planning of initial production areas.

Results indicate that the property hosts multiple parallel zones that strike east-west and dip steeply to the north. These zones could be mined using narrow, selective mining methods which, according to River Gold, could lead to much higher gold grades than previously interpreted.

In some of the zones, such as No. 8, the proximity of the parallel zones could allow for bulk mining of two zones from a single stope. Uncut results from No. 8 ranged between 16.55 grams to 46.25 grams gold per tonne over true widths between 7.2 and 3.75 metres. The best assay — cut to 34.26 grams — was 14.98 grams over 3.75 metres.

The No. 6 zone has also yielded high-grade assays up to 48.75 grams over 1.42 metres. Most assays from No. 6 were between 10 and 40 grams over widths between 1 to 3 metres.

Two drills are currently on the property and will complete in excess of 100 definition drill holes. In addition, exploration drilling, scheduled to start soon, will test potential new zones near existing underground infrastructure. As well, surface site construction and rehabilitation of underground workings is scheduled to start in November in order to facilitate early access and development of underground reserves.
