Deeper zone for Northern Star

Northern Star Mining (NSM-V) has discoverd a new deep zone on its Midway gold project at the former Malartic Goldfields property near Malartic, Que.

The discovery hole extended to about 1,600 metres vertical depth, and Northern Star says it is the deepest drill hole advanced on the Cadillac Break in the Malartic area. The workings at Malartic Goldfields extended to just past 820 metres.

The hole intersected five gold-mineralized zones, from 1,160 to 1,715 metres down-hole. The narrowest was 0.4 metres long but the widest was 5.3 metres.

The best zone averaged 9.6 grams gold per tonne over 5.3 metres, including two intervals, each 1 metre long, that ran 11.4 and 27.8 grams per tonne. Another zone about 60 metres up-hole from that graded 6.2 grams per tonne over 2 metres.

Narrower low-grade zones flanked the two both above and below.

More assay results from the hole are pending.
