Early Monday morning a miner was killed by a rock fall at Revett Minerals (RVM-T) Troy Mine in northwestern Montana.
The name of the deceased is Michael Ivins who was 55 and a resident of the nearby town of Libby.
Ivins, a mechanic, was inside of a maintaince vehicle roughly 183 metres below surface when it was covered by the fall and then caught fire.
It took the safety and rescue team, along with the Central Mine Rescue of Silver Valley in Idaho, until 7:00 pm to finish their recovery efforts.
When they were done they had retrieved two other miners. The miners were treated for minor injuries and have been released from hospital in Libby.
All other workers have been accounted for and the affected area has been isolated, the company says.
Mining operations have been suspended while officials investigate a process that could take several days.
Ivins leaves behind a wife and two grown childern. He had worked at the mine for nearly 3 years.
We and all the employees of the Troy Mine are devastated by this accident and our condolences and sympathies go out to the affected families and their friends, said Revetts president and chief executive William Orchow in a prepared statement.
Spokane, Washington-based Revett holds a 67% stake in the mine. On July 31 the companys shares were unchanged at $1.26 on a volume of 102,000 shares.
