Deak, Kennecott drilling near Kerr

A $1-million exploration program funded by Toronto-based Deak Resources (TSE) and Kennecott Canada has commenced on claims adjoining Deak’s Kerr gold mine and mill at Virginiatown, Ont.

Using the underground workings at Kerr and surface drill rigs, the joint venture is looking for deposits within a talc-chlorite alteration zone which has already yielded 11 million oz. since the mine went into production in 1938.

The alternation zone extends eastward from the mine for a strike length of 8,000 ft. and it has been identified by four

shallow holes on joint venture ground in McGarry and Chesterville twps. Deak says three rigs have been deployed on joint venture claims while a fourth is drilling a deep hole on the Kerr property (not included in the joint venture agreement) about 600 ft. further west. The deep hole is designed to intersect the alteration zone at a depth of 3,000 ft. Having commenced underground exploration in August, Deak intends to drift eastward into the joint venture claim group to establish drill stations for deep exploration on the 2,650-ft. level. In future, the 1,650-ft. and 3,850-ft. levels may be extended as well.

In an urelated development, Deak is planning to start drilling soon on its Aldermac property in Quebec in a bid to intersect the Cadillac-Larder break which is known to extend on to the property for a distance of about one mile. Aldermac is situated about 15 miles east of the Kerr mine.
