Last April, Hillsborough, in a joint acquisition with Curragh, purchased a 20% interest in the Mt Hundere project from Canamax Resources (TSE).
Curragh is a private company which holds the remaining 80% interest and is operator of the Mt Hundere project.
The recently-completed drill program, employing three machines, was designed to evlauate the 5.2 million tonnes of zinc-lead mineralization outlined previously by Canamax, in four principal areas of the 427-claim property.
Of the 74 holes drilled to date by Curragh, 33 were completed on the Jewelbox Hill zone where some 2.6 million tons of material grading 18.6% combined lead-zinc are reported.
Curragh said its recent drilling at Jewelbox Hill confirmed the presence of multiple zones of mineralization, ranging in thickness from 9.8 ft to 65.6 ft, and ameanable to both open pit and underground mining.
Results from another 21 holes, drilled on the Burnick East and West zones, indicate they are connected at depth in a syncline structure. The new geological interpretation increases the tonnage potential above the the previous 2.0 million tons of 12% lead-zinc reported by Canamax. A new zone was also discovered at a depth of 650 ft beneath the original Burnick zones. The new zone appears to be flat- lying, varying from 20 to 65 ft thick, and has been intersected in 12 holes to date, Curragh said.
More definition drilling on the Burnick zone, utilizing two machines, is planned for the next phase of work. The Burnick zones, expecially the new deep zone, are reported to be open along strike and down-dip.
A total of 14 holes were drilled in the Atilla zone and another six on the Gribbler Ridge zone. Thickness and grade in the latter zone were found to be lower than previously reported by Canamax.
The joint venture partners have temporarily ceased drilling at Mt Hundere in order to upgrade camp facilities, compile recent results, and prepare for an additional 32,000 ft of definition drilling.
Curragh is controlled by Westray Mining Corp., through intermediate holding companies. Its other prominent shareholders including Giant Resources of Australia (46%), Boliden AB of Sweden, and Mitsu & Co., of Japan. Brampton-based Hillsborough Resources is also engaged in the engineering and mine contracting businesses.
