Cumberland hits gold at Meadowbank

Infill drilling by Cumberland Resources (CBD-T) at its Meadowbank gold project in Nunavut has returned higher grades than expected.

Several holes sunk in the central portion of the Third Portage deposit returned up to 45.86 grams gold per tonne over intervals as long as 20.86 metres. Of the 12 holes reported, nearly all intersected two or more zones, and one failed to return any significant values. Highlights include:

• hole 381, which intersected four intervals, including 3.34 metres (15 to 18.34 metres) grading 10.26 grams;
• hole 380, which also intersected four intervals, including 6.61 metres (3 to 9.61 metres) grading 24.79 grams and 1.92 metres (29.4 to 31.32 metres) grading 45.86 grams;
• hole 376, which cut two intervals of 1.89 metres (18.36 to 20.52 metres) averaging 2.35 grams and 11.91 metres (25.52 to 37.43 metres) averaging 21.64 grams, including 3.36 metres grading 45.64 grams; and
• hole 374, which also cut two intervals of 1.77 metres (45.07 to 46.84 metres) averaging 22.89 grams and 8.58 metres (52.78 to 61.36 metres) averaging 5.29 grams.

Third Portage is the largest of four deposits known on the property, hosting 5.6 million tonnes grading 5.83 grams gold within 145 metres of surface. The latest intersections all occur within 70 metres of surface and have not yet been included in the resource.
