Cuban drilling yields results for MacDonald

Assays of the latest drill holes at the Golden Hill project in east-central Cuba reveal strong gold mineralization.

Half the project is owned jointly by MacDonald Mines Exploration (ASE) and Golden Hill Mining (CDN), with the remaining half held by Cuban state-owned firm GeoMinera. MacDonald and Golden Hill are earning into the project by carrying out a drill program.

The latest holes were all drilled on Little Golden Hill, one of five gold zones. Drilling hit both surface oxide mineralization and deeper sulphide mineralization. The best hole, GH-15, cut a 34.83-metre intersection of oxide material running 11.52 grams gold per tonne, including an intercept of 34.63 grams over 10.85 metres.

Hole GH-28 hit 25.25 metres of 6.89 grams gold per tonne in the oxide zone, while a 23.9-metre oxide intersection in hole GH-29 assayed 5.26 grams gold per tonne.

Hole GH-16 hit 25.45 metres of 3.06 grams gold per tonne in the oxide zone, as well as 33.7 metres of 1.44 grams gold and 1.1% copper farther down, within the sulphide zone.

Hole GH-17 hit 22.85 metres of 1.04 grams gold per tonne in the oxide zone, as well as 20.65 metres of 1.5 grams gold and 1% copper in the sulphide zone.

Hole GH-18 intersected sulphide mineralization running 0.06 gram gold per tonne and 1.02% copper over 24.25 metres.

Results from holes GH-22 to GH-25 were significantly lower. Results from GH-21 and GH-27 are pending.

The total number of holes completed stands at 44.

The gold zones at Golden Hill are parts of siliceous bodies within an area of strongly hydrothermal alteration. Limonite-rich and quartz-rich suface samples from the Little Golden Hill zone averaged 3.5 grams gold per tonne. Surveying revealed a strong induced-polarization anomaly and a coincidental resistivity low in the area of the best surface samples, prompting MacDonald and Golden Hill to start their drill program last year.

On the financial front, MacDonald has subscribed for 10% of the shares of Golden Hill; before the subscription, 40% of the shares were held by Mill City Gold Mining (VSE). MacDonald has an ongoing right of first refusal on all security issues of Golden Hill.
