Crown stops work

Partners Crown Butte Resources (VSE) and Noranda Exploration, an affiliate of Noranda (TSE), have been forced to stop exploration on their Black Hill’s gold project in South Dakota.

The companies stopped their work after South Dakota’s governor, George Mickelson, announced plans to propose a 2-year moratorium on new mine development in the current legislative session.

The proposal, which will effectively kill mineral exploration in that state, was apparently suggested and supported by Homestake Mining, the largest mine operator in the state, Crown Butte alleges.

Other Canadian companies affected include Goldstake Explorations (TSE), which was planning to reprocess the vast tailings adjacent to Homestake’s gold mine near Lead, S.D.
