Cross-Cuts QUINTETTE’S COAL SHUTTLE

When Quintette Coal decided to truck-haul coal from its newly opened Shikano pit to the process plant three kilometres away, the haulage trucks had to cross a public access road. For safety and efficiency, an overpass was built — basically in the middle of nowhere. The overpass is a large culvert made of curved steel plates bolted together to form an ellipse in cross section. The coal haul truck traffic from the Shikano crosses over top of the structure while light vehicle traffic passes through the culvert.
