Court orders Blackdome miners to return to work

A group of underground employees at Blackdome mine near Clinton, B.C. were expected to be back on the job last week following a court order which called for an end to their 6-day strike.

The 18 members of the Tunnel and Rock Workers Union, Local 168, walked off the job on April 15 after one of the miners was disciplined.

But the strike was declared illegal three days later by the Industrial Relations Council which has ordered the employees to end the strike.

Since the strike affected only the underground portion of Blackdome Mining’s (TSE) Clinton operation, President Scott Drever said the impact on this years’s gold production figures would be negligible.

In 1987, the operation produced 46,700 oz gold and 126,520 oz silver.
