Correction (March 04, 1991)

The correct version should have read: As well, the old Environmental Protection Act gave them no legal right to pursue previous owners in this respect. According to Toronto legal firm Holden Day Wilson, the amendments now allow the Ministry of the Environment to pursue both present and previous owners; that is, whoever was in occupation or in charge of managing the so urce of contaminant in the present or past regardless of whether or not that person contributed to pollution.
