Cornelius Campbell

During his long career in the exploration industry, “Con” Campbell worked across northern Quebec and Ontario, from Ungava to the Red Lake regions.

Arriving in the Noranda region from his native Prince Edward Island in 1936, Con worked in the exploration industry and also worked at the Waite-Amulet, O’Brien and Noranda mines.

From 1950 until 1953, Con and his wife ran a refueling base and weather reporting station for Gold Belt Airways of Noranda at Bachelor Lake, 180 miles northeast of Rouyn, near present day Desmaraisville.

After Gold Belt closed the base in 1953, the couple returned to Noranda where Con worked in exploration until he retired from field work in the 1970s. He was active in the Prospectors and Developers Association during this time.

Con worked for Assayer’s Ltd. of Rouyn until he retired in 1986 at the age of 82.
