Conventional flotation and smelting will recover 85-95% of the contained gold in ore from the Newfield project in Garrison Twp., Ont., according to recent metallurgical testing. T&H Resources (TSE) holds a 35.7% interest in the project. Jonpol Resources (TSE), T&H’s major shareholder, holds the majority 64.3% interest.
Testing a bulk sample of underground material with a grade of 0.18-0.33 oz. gold per ton, Lakefield Research was able to extract a flotation concentrate of 4-6 oz. per ton. Since much of the gold is locked up in sulphides, flotation is a necessary step before the concentrate can be sent to a conventional smelter.
Jonpol has not indicated whether it is still considering the possibility of processing its gold ore through a proposed autoclave at the old Kerr mill at Virginiatown, Ont. Deak Resources (TSE) is studying the feasibility of reactivating the old mill, or alternatively, replacing the roaster with an autoclave pressure- leach system.
Jonpol says it will resume drilling on the deposit immediately to explore the known zones on strike and to depth. Preliminary reserves to a depth of 1,000 ft. stand at 513,800 tons grading 0.28 oz. gold if a true width of 11 ft. and a cutoff grade of 0.15 oz. are used. Reserves change to 1.1 million tons grading 0.18 oz. if a true width of 10 ft. and a cutoff grade of 0.08 oz. are used.
