Contractor signed for Greenstone’s Santa Rosa

A contractor has been hired to carry out open-pit mining at Greenstone Resources’ (TSE) Santa Rosa gold mine in west-central Panama.

Brown & Root is moving men and equipment to the site in preparation for removal of waste rock and mining of 13.6 million tonnes of ore. The mining cost is expected to be about US$1 per tonne of material moved. Ore will be delivered by the contractor, at which point Greenstone will supervise crushing, heap leaching and recovery. Heap-leaching pads and sprinklers are being assembled.

Meanwhile, Greenstone plans to complete an additional 3,800 metres of reverse circulation drilling to test for extensions of existing orebodies near Santa Rosa and on other concessions in Veragua province.

The drill rig arrived following completion of a 2,500-metre program on Greenstone’s newly optioned San Andres property in Honduras. Results from this program are expected shortly.
