Continental Gold Corp (VSE) has acquired a 100% interest in the Trophy gold property located 70 miles southwest of Dease Lake, B.C. The property covers 60 square miles of ground which was prospected last year. Results from the initial exploration effort include the identification of three gold-bearing shear zones striking for a combined length of 20 miles, Robert Hunter, president of Continental, says. Hunter is also president of North American Metals, which is developing a gold mine with Chevron Canada at Dease Lake.
Gold on the Trophy property is associated with disseminations and fracture fillings of native gold, electrum, pyrite, galena, sphalerite and arsenopyrite.
Surface channel sampling has returned grades of 0.31 oz gold per ton across 10-ft channels in the Ptarmigan A zone. The highest value came for the north extension zone which graded 0.94 oz across 3.3 ft.
The mineralization is related to syenite plutons which represent a similar setting to that found on the Delaware-Cominco Snip deposit and the Skyline gold project in the Iskut River area to the south.
Continental plans to perform additional exploration this summer which will include diamond drilling.
