The 40-hole program is designed to evaluate the deposit to a vertical depth of 1,000 ft. The first stage, due to begin immediately, will consist of a 4,000-ft drill program comprising nine step-out holes.
The company said its 1988 program was highly successful in that shallow drilling confirmed and better defined open pittable gold reserves in the B zone, while deep holes in the P zone (to a vertical depth of 500 ft) established continuity from surface to the depths drill tested.
The P zone was also identified as a major zone of shearing, quartz- sulphide veining and silicification averaging 30-35 ft wide with associated felsic porphyry dyke activity. The company also noted that deep drilling (to vertical depths of 700 ft) indicated substantial potential for expanding reserves at depth in the A, B, C and P zones. Reserves are now reported at 260,000 tons grading 0.25 to 0.30 oz gold per ton.
Selected results from the 1988 program include: 31.5 ft of 0.369 oz gold; 20.9 ft of 0.189 oz; 9.4 ft of 0.307 oz; and 37.1 ft of 0.236 oz, including 21.8 ft of 0.344 oz.
