Companies face criminal charges

Criminal charges have been laid against Royal Oak Mines (TSE) (and its predecessor, Pamour Inc.) by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment in connection with the Oct. 17, 1990, tailings spill at the former Matachewan Consolidated mine in northeastern Ontario, Royal Oak said.

Criminal charges have also been filed against Goldteck Mines (TSE), Matachewan Consolidated Mines (TSE) and two of the latter company’s officers. Matachewan, Pamour and Goldteck had previously been served with ministry orders under the Ontario Environmental Protection Act.
