Companies drill in Cuba

A new area of base metal mineralization has been uncovered at the San Fernando project in central Cuba, Holmer Gold Mines (ASE) reports.

The junior says hole 1, designed to test an anomaly north of the San Fernando mine, cut 3.25 metres of massive sulphides followed by a 100-metre-wide stringer zone with vein-type pyrite, sphalerite and chalcopyrite at the bottom of the hole.

The intercept returned a high zinc value, along with silver, gold, copper and lead credits.

Follow-up ground geophysical surveys are under way. Drilling is scheduled to commence in May.

Elsewhere on the Caribbean island, Joutel Resources (TSE) is planning a drill program for La Zona Barita, a gold deposit in the Sierra Maestra concession near El Cobre. Also planned is a 10-hole, 5,000-metre program to test anomalies adjacent to, and along, La Zona Barita.

Recent preliminary drilling at El Jaguey, in the Vidot-Casscorro concession near Camaguey, outlined a zone of zinc, lead, copper, silver and gold mineralization along 150 metres. Thirteen holes, representing 1,633 metres, tested a surface showing, some results of which are listed below. In addition, the junior awaits results from the drilling of six holes at each of Los Cerros and Fortuna, two copper-zinc-gold-silver projects in the Santa Clara area.

Joutel is planning to keep its drill rig active on the island, moving it from its current position at Antonio (a base metal deposit), to La Vega (a gold prospect), and then on to the Loma Caridad and Dumanuecos gold projects and the Tamarindo copper project.
