Drilling at the Sheep Creek copper property of Cominco Resources International (TSE) and BHP-Utah International near Helena, Mont., has intersected high grade copper mineralization over a significant thickness.
Drill hole No 46 returned 7.4% copper over 24 ft from the interval 1,313-1,337 ft; that intercept occurred within a thicker zone grading 5.7% copper over 41 ft. The high grade hole, an 1,800 ft stepout from the established “upper” and “lower” zones, is projected to be an eastern extension of the lower zone, says Cominco Resources. Additional drilling is planned to determine the extensions of the lower zone.
Previous results have referred to the 5-million-ton Upper zone which grades 2.5% copper and 0.1% cobalt. The lower zone, which apparently extends for over 2,600 ft, is open in several directions. Preliminary metallurgical test work suggests good recoveries and a high grade concentrate could be produced from the zone. More work will be required to achieve satisfactory recoveries in the upper zone which contains the cobalt.
