Comaplex hits gold at Noomut River

Drilling at the Noomut River gold project of Comaplex Minerals (CMF-T) has revealed several impressive mineralized intervals. The project is situated near Rankin Inlet, in the eastern portion of the Northwest Territories.

Most of this year’s 2,026-metre drill program, which is now complete, was conducted on Noomut River’s Esker zone, where gold mineralization is associated with quartz veins within deformed gabbro dykes and an altered granitic intrusion.

The best intersections included: 70.95 metres grading 2.35 grams gold per tonne, including 4.8 metres of 14.77 grams, 6.5 metres of 6.41 grams and 2.5 metres of 12.22 grams, in hole 13; 0.5 metre of 3.7 grams in hole 14; 13.27 metres of 8.18 grams and 4.9 metres of 3.63 grams in hole 15; 1.44 metres of 3.67 grams and 5.57 metres of 4 grams in hole 16; 3 metres of 6.19 grams and 4.35 metres of 4.29 grams in hole 17; 0.5 metre of 5.45 grams in hole 22; and 1.1 metres of 9.88 grams, 5 metres of 7.24 grams and 3.5 metres of 3.69 grams in hole 23.

The preceding intervals were recovered from between 10 and 155 metres below surface.

In 1996, Comaplex was focused mostly on a structural break along which were found the Napartok, Ironside and River gold zones. By 1997, however, a sub-parallel structure comprising several new gold occurrences, including the Esker gold zone, had been found.

In recent weeks, Comaplex, which holds a 100% interest in the Noomut River project, has augmented its land position there to include the strike extent of the new zones, as well as other areas which yielded encouraging results during a reconnaissance prospecting program.

For 1998, Comaplex is planning a program of diamond drilling, geophysical surveying and prospecting.
