Wheeler said that gold and silver production also reached record levels, primarily because of production increases at the Rochester mine near Lovelock, Nev. Total gold output climbed to 76,763 oz, compared to 54,247 oz in 1987, and silver output reached nearly 5.9 million oz compared to five million the year before.
The Rochester mine produced 52,388 oz gold during the year and five million ounces silver; “We believe our Rochester silver-gold mine ranked as the largest primary silver producer in the United States in 1988,” he stated.
“Maintaining our tradition of low production costs, and engaging in a prudent forward sales program helped Coeur D’Alene Mines experience the best year in its 60-year history, despite 1988s somewhat lower market prices compared to 1987.”
