A new issue, Transgold Resources chalked up the best gains this week, trading to a high of $1.05 before slipping back to 95 cents -$1. Volume was 272,000 shares for the week. The company, which came out at 45 cents , holds a large tract of land encompassing 15 townships in the Wawa-Goudreau area of Ontario.

Tarzan was also active, swinging through more than 155,000 shares to close unchanged at $1.25. The company holds a large portfolio of grass-roots exploration plays in Ontario and Quebec.

A potential increase in open pit mining royalties paid to the State of South Dakota could have a negative impact on companies working there. An environmental faction is pushing for the move. Goldstake Explorations, which plans to process some of the tailings produced by the big Homestake gold mine, could be affected. The issue was easier at 60 cents on volume of more than 170,000 shares.
