Coal Conference (December 05, 1988)

The second regional conference on coal marketing, technology and mining, which will be held in Brisbane, Aust., from June 5-8 , 1989, will bring together coal suppliers and electricity power generating coal buyers.

The Australian coal industry is aiming at gaining both influence and participation in a multi-billion- dollar push by Japan for the development of coal-fired power stations in South-East Asia and the Pacific. At the same time, Japanese electric power utilities are threatening to halve Australia’s steaming coal quota and switch to U.S. coal unless the mining industry meets their price demands.

PACOAL 89 tackles the future of the inter-relationship between power generators and coal with its theme “Electricity and Coal demand in the Asia-Pacific.” The 4-day conference (in English) will be held in the heart of one of the world’s most productive coal and electricity producing regions and will be attended by Australian and international representatives of both industries.
