CIM prepares to take a licking

Canada Post will issue a stamp to honor the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM).

The stamp was designed by Monique Dufour and Sophie Lafortune of Quebec, using layered photographs of equipment common to the mining industry: a cutting wheel from Tamrock Canada appears in the stamp’s upper left corner; the Hibernia offshore oil platform is depicted in the lower left corner; an image of a smelter occupies the right side of the stamp; and a silhouette of a pick axe is overlaid across the other three images.

Canada Post will issue 7 million of the 45cents stamps. They will be available for purchase in books of 20, with five minerals depicted across the bottom of the full sheet.
