The annual meeting of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum (CIM), scheduled for May 14-18 in Halifax, N.S., is expected to draw about 2,500 delegates, guests and exhibitors from 40 countries.
The Halifax ’95 program will feature plenary and technical presentations, forums, workshops, poster sessions, field trips, social activities and an awards dinner.
During the conference, 64 topics, along with various technical papers, will be presented and discussed. A trade show, CIM Tradex, featuring about 150 exhibitors, will also be a part of the conference.
The minister of Natural Resources Canada, Anne McLellan, will deliver the opening address. Chairing the opening plenary session will be Derrick Rance, president of Iron Ore Co. of Canada.
The Mining Society of Nova Scotia (MSNS) will co-host the conference. MSNS traces its CIM links back to 1887, when the Gold Miner’s Club of Nova Scotia was formed. That club evolved into MSNS, which became the founding society of CIM in 1898.
