CIM awards

Donald McLeod, president of the Northern Group of companies (Northair Mines, Scottie Gold Mines, Newhawk Gold Mines) is the 1987 winner of the District 6 proficiency medal of the Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy.

McLeod was awarded the medal at ceremonies at the District 6 annual meeting in Vancouver. It is given for a significant professional contribution to the mineral industry in each of cim’s six districts.

The District 6 distinguished service award went to William Pryde, a retired senior executive with cil, who was cited for his contributions to the industry and the Institute at the local level.

Born in Stewart, B.C., McLeod started working in the mining industry at the age of 15, and is responsible for having brought Northair’s Brandywine and Scottie Gold’s Summit Lake mines into production.

Pryde was with cil from 1949 to 1977, serving the mining industry as explosives technical engineer, district manager, and mining marketing manager.
