Christian von Hessert

Christian von Hessert, chairman of Toronto-based Laramide Resources, has died. He was 59.

Born in 1941 in New York, N.Y., von Hessert was a graduate of Columbia University and in 1971 received his masters of science degree from the University of Minnesota.

As a professional engineer, von Hessert worked for the U.S. Bureau of Mines, Asamera Oil, Conwest Explorations, and Western Mines.

He started a consulting practice in the 1970s and spent most of the decade searching for uranium. In the 1980s, he contributed to the discovery of the Golden Reward mine in Lead, S.D., and more recently was chief technical advisor for Aquiline Resources during its discovery of platinum group metals near Sudbury, Ont.

Von Hessert is survived by his second wife Barbara, his first wife Donna, and three daughters.
