China may allow foreign investment

The vice-director of China’s state gold administration was quoted recently in the China Daily newspaper as saying that foreign investment may be allowed inside the country in part to modernize some mines.

According to Gold Fields Mineral Services, China produced 110 tonnes gold in

1991, up from 95 tonnes the previous year and good for sixth position among the world’s gold producers.
