China and NWMA sign agreement

The Northwest Mining Association (NWMA) and the China National Coal Association (CNCA) have signed a memorandum of understanding at the National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in Washington. D.C.

The agreement calls for the exchange of information pertaining to mining methods, health-monitoring equipment, and training systems for workers. It also proposes the sharing of clean coal technology, so as to reduce the environmental impact of coal-fired generation of electricity.

The NWMA is based in Spokane, Wash.; the CNCA, in Beijing.
