Change in thinking needed: Wilson

Canadian geophysicist John Tuzo has called for a scientific revolution in the earth sciences.

In a speech in Toronto, Wilson, who is one of the early proponents of continental drift and plate tectonics, said earth sciences cannot advance unless a revolution occurs in current geological thinking.

He went on to talk about the distribution of uplifts, rift valleys and volcanoes. Then he presented some of his ideas on the relationship between volcanic centers, plateau basalts and bonanza gold deposits in the southwestern U.S.

Wilson was addressing a joint luncheon of the Canadian Institute of Mining, Metallurgy and Petroleum and the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada.
