CGA Mining hires Leighton for Masbate gold mine

CGA Mining (CGA-T, CGAFF-O) has awarded a mining contract for its Masbate gold project in the Philippines to Australia’s Leighton Contractors.

The Masbate project, located on the island of Masbate, 350 km south of Manila, was acquired by CGA in 2007.

Leighton, which has been operating in Asia since 1975, begins its six-year mining contract with the construction of the project’s tailings storage facility.

The company plans to raise the embankment to a height of 20 metres above natural ground level before August (final height to accomodate known reserves is 51 metres)

Leighton, based in New South Wales, operates and maintains a fleet of owned and leased mining plant and equipment worth over US$1.9 billion.
